What is telerehab?

Telerehab is the remote delivery of health care services using telecommunication technology. Telerehab enables therapists and clients to interact via a secure videoconference platform. Telerehab allows the therpaist and client to carry out virtual  assesment, treatment and educational sessions.

If virtual sessions are not an option, we are also able to provide education and treatment sessions over the phone.

What are the advantages of telerehab?

 Telerehab is a helpful way to provide continued care to a client when they are unable to attend a clinic in person. Telerehab allows a client to maintain their health and well being in the comfort and safety of their own home.

Is telerehab covered through Insurance?

Most insurance providers will cover telerehab sessions. It is recommended that you contact your Insurance provider and ask whether your specific policy covers telerehab. The client must reside in Ontario, Canada inorder to take part in a telerehab sessions.

What does it cost?

Telerehab sessions at Wellington Hand Clinic follow our existing payment schedule. An Initial assessment session  will cost $110 and followup sessions cost $60.

What will the client need at home?

You will need a computer, tablet or phone with a camera and access to internet. It is recommeded that you have room that will allow you to sit, stand or lie down within the view of the camera if the therapist needs you move around during the session.

How will the therapist and client connect for the telerehab session?

An administrative staff will contact the client to schedule a time for the session and have the client complete neccessary  forms and consent.  The administrative staff will explain the steps to follow for the client to access the session.

What kind of client is telerehab appropriate for?

Telerehab can be helpful for a wide range of clients. Most soft tissue and orthopedic conditions (post joint replacement, fractures, muscle and ligament  strains or sprains)  can benefit is some way from a hands off assessment or treatment session until an in-person session can be arranged if neccessary.

What is involved in a telerehab session?

If you are a new client the first session will be an assessment. The therapist will take a medical history and ask questions about your injury/condition. The therapist may then have you do some movements to assess your mobility or other tests specific to your condition and have you demonstrate tasks you may be having problems with.  Following the assessment the therapist will give you their opinion on your issue and provide some of the following: education, do & don’ts, appropriate stretching or strengthening exercises.

Clients who have had an assessment  will have followup sessions during which the therapist and client will review the client’s concerns and progress. The therapist will then provide some of the following: education, review and progression of exercises, pain management strategies and recommendation on activities of daily living.
